Meet the Educators: Mona M.
Recent grad, Mona Moriya, joins Speak About It to combine her passions for acting and advocacy.
Mona comes to Speak About It via Emerson College via Los Angeles. She graduated with a BFA in acting, and brings to Speak About It a unique passion for combing advocacy and theater. Mona is particularly looking forward to learning how to talk about sex and consent in an accessible and engaging way with students. As a first-time educator, she is happily leaving behind her tiny Boston apartment to tour in an equally tiny mini-van this summer.

Why is educating students about consent important to you?
When I was in high school and college, I always wished the topic of consent was talked about more. To be a part of furthering the consent conversation through education means a lot to me.
You’re an actor, why is theater an important way to share Speak About It's message with students?
Theater is a catalyst for social change which scares a lot of people so we have to keep making connections and pushing the status quo through seeing a diverse group of people on stage, in front of you, etc.
On a more serious note, what's your most ridiculous celebrity crush?
Shang from Mulan. I know, he's a freakin cartoon character.
If you had to give a TED talk on something, what would it be?
I'd talk about how climate change affects communities of color.
What is something you’re super proud of? Don’t be humble.
I was elected president of Emerson College's Asian student union, which led to being awarded "Student Leader of the Year" by the school.
