Share Your Story

TELL YOUR STORY.jpg

Storytelling is at the core of our work. Our Flagship Show shares the true experiences and stories of real students.

Whatever your story may be, we want to hear it! Whether you've had sex or haven't, figuring out your gender identity or sexual orientation, are a survivor or know someone who is, or just have a great story about love, dating, sex, and sexuality.…share your story!

We would be honored to hear your story, and would love to consider including it in future versions of our show! Our show is more powerful and more effective when it includes diverse and interesting perspectives from people like you!

Questions about how to write your story, and how we’ll use it in the show? Check out our FAQ below.

FAQs

Can I submit my story anonymously?

All stories are performed in the show with all identifying information removed. We commit to keeping your identity confidential and ensuring your privacy when you submit a story. However, because we are a for-hire production, we ask that all contributors sign a release with their story if they wish for it to be performed. This release grants Speak About It the right to perform the submitter's written work. This serves as a legal protection for both the organization and the individuals who share stories. We value the courage and strength needed to share a story, and are committed to honoring this process by keeping the submission process and the identities of individuals who contribute their stories highly confidential.

What if I’m not sure how to write my story as a monologue for performance, or I’m struggling with the writing process in general?

Our staff is happy to work with you on writing and editing your story in a format that will work within the context of our performances. For individual assistance, please contact us.

What if I submit a story, but later on decide that I would rather not have it be part of the show?

You may request that your story be removed from the show at any time by sending us an email at info@wespeakaboutit.org.

How will Speak About It protect my confidentiality as a submitter?

When you share a story for inclusion as a monologue in our show you will be asked to sign a release granting our organization the right to perform your written work. Your story and the release form will be separated and stored in secure files, so that your identity and signature cannot be attached to your specific story. The Speak About It, Inc. staff take confidentiality very seriously, and will never discuss the fact that you have submitted a story to our organization with any outside person or entity.

How long should my story be?

In order to include as many experiences and perspectives as we can, we ask that submitted stories run between 150 and 650 words. If you need help editing your monologue, feel free to contact us for help and suggestions.
