People are speaking….about Speak About It!

Students say:

“I had a lot of fun listening to the presentation and would love to it watch again. I want to become more comfortable sticking up for myself and others.”

— First-year student, Wayne State University (she/her)

I thought the show was funny when it needed to be, somber when the topic demanded, and most of all full of useful information.”

— First-year student, Kenyon College (he/him)

“I appreciated the inclusion of multiple gender identities, sexualities, and intimacy levels into the show. It gave voice to a lot of communities often overlooked, especially in regards to sex ed.”

— First-year student, Rhodes College (she/her)

“I thought the videos were really effective tools for teaching about consent and safety in the time of COVID-19. At my orientation last year, we had the live performance, and I had expected the content to be similar. The videos felt more like "level 2." As someone who is involved in sexual violence prevention at my school, I find that I'm well versed in the basics, so I appreciated more specific and advanced conversations.

— Student Leader, Connecticut College (she/her)

“Thank you for including people who abstain religiously. It’s hard to hear all this stuff about sex, and not relate and then hear abstinence is OKAY TOO!!”

— First-year student, Knox College (she/her)

"So glad ya'll come to our school, I think what you do really makes a difference in our consent culture and knowledge of healthy relationships."

— First-year student, Nipissing University

“At first I was unsure how well a skit would demonstrate the seriousness of sexual assault, but I actually thought [the show] portrayed it very well. Sexual assault is such a difficult topic especially at MSU, after the Larry Nassar situation...In addition, sexual assault is so common, and many feel uncomfortable discussing it. I think this performance was very relatable. I also feel like it should be repeated for second semester so that individuals can be reminded of it. I really appreciated Speak About It, especially since I am a victim of sexual assault. Hearing the stories made me realize that I am not alone, and that this is a real issue, internationally.”

— First year student, James Madison College @ MSU (she/her)

“This is the best educational performance I have ever seen because it was so real and honest and non-preachy. I gained a lot of useful knowledge and tips that I will use in college, and I think that many of my classmates felt the same way.”

— High school senior (she/her)

"I really loved the energy Speak About It bought.”

— High school student (she/her)

"Most of the time these sorts of assemblies are dreaded as the speaker doesn't relate to us or is not engaging at all. The last one we had only talked about assault on straight white women and made it seem like all men were the enemy. I'm glad you guys talked about men's sexual assault, everyone was included and it wasn't a specific demographic that was being talked to, it was all of us."

— High school junior (he/him)

Schools say:

“The consensus opinion is that Speak About It has been the best program we have presented to first-years in recent memory. We absolutely would recommend it to other institutions."

— Title IX Coordinator, Hamilton College

"Speak About It offers high school students an honest, compelling, and realistic look at the issues of healthy relationships, sexual decision-making, and consent. The performance and facilitated discussion provide students with tools to make decisions that are consistent with their values, respect others, and protect their health and safety. This is a must-see performance for graduating students preparing to navigate independent living or college life.”

— Associate Head of School, National Cathedral School

“Speak About It has been the most appropriate way for our institution to engage issues of interpersonal violence within the new student orientation setting that involves an entire, very large, class of new students, and they keep a generally light and fun energy throughout.”

— Violence Prevention Specialist, University of Pennsylvania

“One of the best student wellness presentations I've seen in 25 years in teaching! The cast was real, talented, honest, appropriate, and best of all, relatable to our students. The monologues and skits were thought-provoking and current, and necessary for any teenager today. After seeing this presentation, our students are much more prepared for some of the more delicate challenges in today's world.”

— Director of Upper School, Berwick Academy

“It is always a wonderful program with the right mix of information, humor, sensitivity, and compassion. Always very inclusive and I think all students can see themselves in at least one situation or another. Students have used the examples given by the SAI team in real life, so that in and of itself is priceless. Thank you for always doing a wonderful job! ”

— Student Affairs Administrator, Brandeis University

“Speak About It is (refreshingly) sex positive and their approach is both inclusive and informative. The Speak About It team are culturally responsive, passionate, creative and organized! The programming and conversations that Lewiston High School staff, parents and students were a part of is something that will hopefully continue in our community! They are excellent listeners and educators.”

— School Counselor, Lewiston High School
